New to Theatres This Weekend: The Heat, White House Down, Byzantium

The summer squeeze continues as another pair of major releases enter the box office battle this weekend. Paul Feig follows up the smash hit Bridesmaids with female buddy cop comedy The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, while Roland Emmerich returns to D.C. destruction with White House Down starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. Both will be hard-pressed to top Monsters University, however, which is probably still favoured to top the box office for the second week in a row. In limited release there is also plenty to choose from including Neil Jordan’s vampire drama Byzantium, Pedro Almodovar’s comedy I’m So Excited, and Redemption starring Jason Statham, not to mention the stellar documentary A Band Called Death. What will you be watching this weekend?
