Vin Diesel Reportedly Meeting with Marvel for an Unknown Role

With the San Diego Comic-Con now less than a month away, Marvel is continuing to hint that they will have some big announcements in store at their panel. We know that Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will kick off with Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man on Nov. 6th, 2015, and earlier this month Marvel set release dates for two more Phase Three movies on May 6th, 2016 and May 5th, 2017 respectively. Many believe that these two movies will be Doctor Strange and The Black Panther, but we won’t know for sure until mid-July. In the meantime, however, there are other things afoot; Vin Diesel recently revealed that Marvel has approached him for a meeting. What could they possibly want to talk to him about?

Vin Diesel recently posted the following message on his Facebook page:

“Marvel has requested a meeting… no idea what for… haha, you probably know better than me…”

Based on the predicted Phase Three projects, Black Panther seems like an obvious possibility. Still, Marvel tends to cast lesser known actors for their lead roles and Vin Diesel’s current price tag might be a bit too high for anything other than a supporting role. Another role that might make sense, however, is Thanos. He will likely be a CG creation, but Diesel could definitely provide a booming voice to back it up. Would you be happy to see Vin Diesel join the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What role do you think they have in mind for him?

Vin Diesel in a Marvel Movie, a good Marvel Movie? Thats very nice, and there are enough “Bad Guys” who are “lookalike”. Or Mark Ruffalo is kicked out and they want a “new” look for Bruce Banner. Anyway, sounds like fun.

Vin Diesel came up as a joke when I was floating actors for the role of Lex Luthor. At this point I’d love to see it just because it would be so stupid.

That’s DC, though. Marvel, I dunno. Not that interested or concerned, I guess. I barely have feelings either way on the guy, but I honestly haven’t seen many movies with him I don’t think. Just commercials for movies.

“He’s bald, so he should TOTALLY be Lex Luthor!”. Jeez, remember when that was the fanboy mindset for casting these things?

  • Owozifa

    It’s not still the mindset?

I’m not sure exactly. I dare say that fanboys are maybe becoming a little more trusting of people who actually get paid to make decisions that affect the future of billion dollar franchises. Every reaction to every casting decision seems to follow the same template: a) “Actor X should be Character Z, because they have the same colored hair/same height/said they wanted to play them in an interview/they were on ‘Firefly’/etc.”, b) “They cast WHO? That’s the worst choice ever in the history of decision-making! This is going to be the worst movie ever!”, and finally c) “This was the best portrayal of the character ever, and I never doubted it for a second! This has made all previous incarnations of the character completely unwatchable bullshit! Nathan Fillion should play the villain in the next one, because if you squint really hard, he almost kind of sort of looks vaguely like…”.

The rumor going around is he’s going to voice Rocket Racoon.
