Megan Fox to Play April O’Neil in Ninja Turtles Reboot?

Update: Variety seems to have confirmed that she will indeed be playing April O’Neil.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Michael Bay’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, which was delayed last year in order to accommodate major changes to the script. Fans have been up in arms ever since Michael Bay revealed that he was re-imagining the TMNT origin story and potentially changing the Turtles themselves to be aliens instead of mutants. In the past half a year or so, even more criticism has come out about the movie’s original script, including some harsh words from Peter Laird himself. Although news of a rewrite could be taken as a good sign, I think we all know that with Michael Bay in charge, there is always plenty of potential for disaster. Now this week he has given fans something else to complain about: the first person to officially join the cast is none other than Megan Fox. Could she be playing April O’Neil?

The news comes from Michael Bay himself, who simply offered the following tidbit via his blog:

“TMNT: we are bringing Megan Fox back into the family!”

Obviously this is a bit of a surprise considering that the two had a falling out after Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, leading Michael Bay to replace her with former Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Fox’s career has been on a bit of a decline without Bay’s blockbusters to support her, having only appeared in Friends with Kids and This is 40 over the past two years.

Still, I suppose the bigger question here is what role she will play in the film. While Bay did not offer any additional information, April O’Neil seems to be a safe assumption since there really aren’t many other major female characters to choose from. I suppose it’s always possible that they have created a brand new role specifically for this movie. Can you see Megan Fox as April O’Neil? Is there any chance that Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman will actually deliver a kick-ass TMNT movie?

Can I honestly be expected to put in the pointless effort to give one single insignificantly microscopic fuck about this movie?

Say the Turtles were juvenile artificial intelligence programs – the series would be called TAINT, for short.

I think Megan Fox would be a great choice. I think the only one better would be Emma Stone.

I am really looking forward to this new turtle film. Transformers 1 and 3 were a whole lotta fun, and I would love to see Bay’s take on the turtles universe.

Not a problem for me. She was never as good as some people claimed when she was the new hot thing on the street and she’s not as bad as a lot of people claim now. I doubt that April is going to have any sort of emotional arc anyway so her acting will probably do. I certainly wouldn’t mind a silly Turtles movie and in that case she could be the perfect eye-candy. That’s probably not what they’ll go for though.

As long as it’s not Michael Bay or Uwe Boll directing it, I’m fine with it. There’s a big difference between producing a film and directing it. But in all honesty, I say,”If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” The original TMNT is still a fun awesome movie to watch; and I never had any knid of problem with it….only its sequels. I’d say the same for Total Recall….but that reboot’s already been fucked.

    yes i will watch this.

the old movie, that was pretty good; if they achieve half that, it’ll be pretty big stuff by today’s standards

this can be salvaged by casting nicolas cage as shredder and sean connery as splinter

I am looking forward to seeing how this project develops. I think almost everyone who was born in the 80’s was a big ninja turtle fan. Those complaining about the origin being altered have to remember that the original origin of the TMNT was pretty silly anyway.
