Chris Pratt to Play Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Chris Pratt is blowing up, people! After taking on a couple of smaller dramatic turns in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty, it looks like the Parks and Recreation star is about to be handed his biggest role to date. He has reportedly landed the lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as Peter Quill, the astronaut who goes on to become Star-Lord. This was a highly coveted role in Hollywood and considering that Marvel was testing many well-known actors for the part (including Pratt’s Zero Dark Thirty co-star Joel Edgerton), it’s pretty impressive that he managed to come out on top. But is Andy Dwyer ready to headline his own comic book movie?

According to Deadline, Chris Pratt will indeed play Star-Lord in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Star-Lord is the half-human / half-alien leader of the Guardians and is described as an “interplanetary policeman.” Some of the other actors that were vying for the role include Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Jack Huston, Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) and Zachary Levi (Chuck).

The character wears a suit that grants him superhuman strength, carries a gun that can project each of the four elements, and also shares a psychic link with his sentient space vessel named… Ship. Yeah, that all sounds a bit silly but it lends creedence to the idea that this movie will very much be a comedy. Pratt’s background supports that fact, as do the other casting rumours surrounding the film. What do you think, is Chris Pratt is the right choice to lead Guardians of the Galaxy?

    Good choice.

I grow ever more afraid that he will end up quitting Parks and Rec.

  • As far as the other names tossed around, isn’t Zachary Levi in the second Thor, replacing one of the Warriors Three from the first one? I’m not sure that there’d be any chance of the supporting cast of Thor running into the Guardians, but would Marvel have put him in two different films taking place in the same film universe?

  • Seems weird that Disney is ok with putting this out before Star Wars eventhough they seem fairly similar.
