The Sweeney Trailer Starring Ray Winstone

Here’s another ’70s cop show headed to the big screen, although if you live outside the U.K., there’s a good chance you may not all that familiar with the source material. The Sweeney was a gritty drama series that focused on the Flying Squad, a division of the London police force dedicated to dealing with violent crime. Now director Nick Love (The Football Factory) is adapting it with Ray Winstone taking on the lead role of Detective Inspector John “Jack” Regan.

Obviously you can’t go wrong with Ray Winstone headlining a gritty crime flick, but the cast also includes Damian Lewis (Homeland) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger). A U.S. trailer recently hit the web and it showcases ample amounts of violence, although the garish lighting is a bit of an eyesore in my opinion. The movie already hit theatres in the U.K. back in September but it will be released stateside on March 1st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

This trailer seemed very boring, which would mean the movie itself would be snooze-inducing a half-hour in. It was interesting to see Damien Lewis speaking in an English accent though.
