We’ve seen a ton of alien invasion movies hit theatres over the past few years, but the vast majority of them have played as action/adventure flicks or disaster movies. Early next year, director Scott Stewart (Legion, Priest) is bringing us a reminder that they can be pretty terrifying too. Dark Skies (not to be confused with the late ’90s TV series of the same name) stars Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton as a mother and father whose family comes under attack by what appears to be an extraterrestrial force.
The film is brought to us by Jason Blum, the same guy who produced the Paranormal Activity series and Insidious (which may explain why it feels pretty similar to the latter). Although I wasn’t a fan of Scott Stewart’s previous films, this looks like it could have potential. It may not be the next Fire in the Sky or Signs, but it’s definitely in the ballpark. At the very least, it will be interesting to see J.K. Simmons as a UFO expert / conspiracy type guy. Dark Skies hits theatres on Feb. 22nd; check out the first trailer after the jump.
