Every February, you can count on at least one or two sappy, generic romantic comedies to come along and take advantage of the Valentine’s Day date crowd. But what about the people who can’t stand those kinds of predictable, paint by numbers snoozefests? Don’t they deserve a date movie to call their own? Next year CBS Films is banking on the fact that more than a few moviegoers are interested in something a little darker and edgier with The To-Do List. The fact that it was previously announced under the working title The Hand Job should tell you just about everything you need to know about this flick.
The movie stars Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) as a nerdy high school girl who decides to prepare for college by challenging herself to satisfy a self-imposed sexual checklist. Written and directed by Maggie Carey (Funny or Die), it looks like it might fall somewhere between Mean Girls and Superbad. The red band trailer certainly gets the point across but also feels a bit forced, particularly when it cuts back to Aubrey Plaza’s commentary throughout. The To-Do List co-stars Rachel Bilson, Donald Glover, Alia Shawkat, Bill Hader, Clark Gregg and Andy Samberg and it hits theatres on February 14th, 2013.
