Stolen Trailer Starring Nicolas Cage

Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like the success of Taken has led to an increase in the number of revenge movies being made as of late and Nicolas Cage happens to be starring in at least half of them. This week a trailer has arrived online for another riff on Taken called Stolen that finds Nicolas Cage reteaming with Con-Air director Simon West (who also just directed The Expendables 2). Cage plays a father whose daughter is kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a taxi, the twist being that Cage’s character is a former thief who must pull off one last heist to get the ransom money.

However, if you thought Cage was likely to be the most ridiculous thing about this movie, think again: Josh Lucas plays the dirtbag kidnapper with long, scraggly hair and a cut under one eye. Cage’s daughter is played by Sami Gayle, who previously starred in Tony Kaye’s Detachment and looks a lot like Emma Watson, and Malin Akerman also co-stars. Basically it’s one step away from being a VOD-only release (the new direct-to-video), but apparently it will actually debut in a few theatres on September 14th. Check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Meh. What is it with these action movies now? They all have that digital look to them and it just looks cheap. They need to get better DPs. That narration is pretty awful and out of place also.

I know the 90’s is slowly turning into the new 80’s, but these homage films are getting pretty boring by now. Besides, 90’s action flicks were in no shape or form memorable, certainly not in the way the 80’s were.
