Raiders of the Lost Ark Coming to IMAX in September

September is really shaping up to be a month long celebration of all things Indy. The original Indiana Jones trilogy (along with that other sequel) will finally be hitting Blu-ray on September 18th, but before that happens, Paramount is also re-releasing Raiders of the Lost Ark on the big screen — the very big screen, that is. As previously reported by El Mayimbe of Latino Review, the movie has been digitally remastered and will be hitting select IMAX theatres for a limited one-week engagement starting on September 7th. Sounds like a great way to revisit the movie, especially if you’ve never seen it on the big screen. The technical details on this new release are as follows:

“The IMAX release has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.”

Obviously the image will not take advantage of the full size IMAX screens, but it will be playing in both the traditional 70mm IMAX format as well as Digital IMAX. Spielberg himself says he was “quite literally blown away” by the experience. Tickets are already up for pre-order and you can view a list of the participating theatres over on the IMAX official site. Do you plan on watching Raiders in IMAX before picking up the Blu-rays? Ok at the risk of geeking out here I’m taking my 5 year old son. Time to usher in a new Indiana Jones loving, soundtrack humming, dodging under electric garage doors, generation. Of course I’ll cover his eyes for any face melting. I am a responsible parent first…kind of.
