Grabbers Trailer: A Booze-Soaked Irish Monster Movie

If you’re a sucker for U.K. horror-comedies, you just might be interested in Grabbers, an Irish indie film that premiered at Sundance earlier this year as part of the Park City at Midnight program. With a title that instantly brings to mind the early ’90s cult classic Tremors, the film revolves around a group of giant, bloodsucking, tentacled aliens that turn up off the coast Erin Island and start terrorizing the inhabitants of a small fishing village. When an alcoholic cop (Richard Coyle) and his new partner (Ruth Bradley) discover that their weakness is booze, it leads to a showdown at the local watering hole.

Grabbers is directed by Jon Wright, who previously helmed the film Tormented starring Alex Pettyfer. While it doesn’t have quite the same pedigree as films like Attack the Block and Shaun of the Dead, it certainly seems to be going for a similar tone, and it looks like it could be fun. IFC Midnight picked up the movie at Sundance and will release it in the U.S. later this year. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  • Bizarre. I saw an early cut of this film, pre grade and pre visual effects. I think they’ve pulled a whole load together since then. It looks like a whole different film – it found it’s edge. Intrigued to (re) watch.
