Jai Courtney to Play John McClane’s Son in A Good Day To Die Hard

It appears that the final piece of the puzzle has fallen into place for the (somewhat) highly anticipated fifth Die Hard movie. After a long and exhaustive search, 20th Century Fox have decided upon the perfect candidate to play John McClane Jr. in the next film (officially titled A Good Day To Die Hard). Their choice: Australian actor Jai Courtney, best known for playing Varro on the Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. I’ve never seen the show myself, but judging by the photos he looks to be sufficiently chiseled for what we can only assume is a very manly role. The question is, will he have the necessary chemistry with Bruce Willis? I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.

According to Deadline, Courtney beat out Liam Hemsworth, star of The Hunger Games and younger brother of Chris Hemsworth, for the coveted role. Courtney is still something of an unknown, but he also has a supporting role in the upcoming Lee Child adaptation One Shot, starring Tom Cruise. At the very least, I’m guessing he will also help to bring a female audience to a franchise that is very male-oriented.

As previously announced, the plot of the new movie finds John McClane traveling to Moscow to bail his estranged son Jack out of jail. Despite their differences, they find themselves relying on each other to survive as they slowly uncover a world-threatening terrorist plot. It is also being hinted that Fox hopes Jai Courtney might take over the franchise after this installment, but hey, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. A Good Day to Die Hard hits theatres on February 14th, 2013 and will be directed by John Moore (Max Payne). So what do you think, did they make the right choice?

He looks like a hot version of the fat kid from Bad Santa

I’m fairly sure that with the director they’ve chosen, the movie will crash and burn (especially if they pg-13 it, like they did in that shitty Max Payne movie). When it comes to passing the torch to “John McClane Jr.”, it sounds just as terrible as them passing the torch to Shia Labeouf to fill in for Indiana Jones. I don’t think anyone wants to see a John McClane wanna be, filling in for Bruce Willis. They should have just left it at,
Live Free or Die Hard. But I’ll keep watching as long as Bruce is the main character. Movies like
Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and Indiana Jones shouldn’t be remade or continued; if the the main star isn’t involved. They should just leave it alone, and come up with something new.

Jonny Ashley: haha he kinda does!

Seems like Australian actors are taking over Hollywood lately.

I agree with Derek, passing the torch just dosen’t work.

‘A good day to Die Hard’ sounds like they are trying to put the story on life support. LFoDH really should have ended it, espesially if they are gonna do this to us.
