As we all await the Arnold Schwarzenegger comeback that we’ve been promised, rumours continue to swirl about the multitude of potential big screen projects that the former California governor is currently sifting through. Earlier this year, he was supposedly looking at a WWII movie called With Wings As Eagles, where he would play an older German soldier who defies orders to kill a bunch of kids. Now, according to a recent update from Arnold himself, there are approximately 15 films that have been thrown at him, including reboots of several ’80s action films that he previously starred in. I’m not sure how that makes any sense, but somehow the news doesn’t surprise me.
According to Schwarzenegger fan site The Arnold Fans, he wasn’t holding anything back at this year’s Arnold Seminar, which is a talk and Q&A given by the man himself as a way to kickoff to his annual bodybuilding competition The Arnold Classic. When asked about the scripts that he had been considering for his return, he had this to say:
“Well, first of all it’s more like 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too. But I am also packaging a Comic Book character right now. I’m going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April.”
While The Terminator project isn’t a huge surprise (Universal supposedly wants Justin Lin to direct), remakes of Predator and The Running Man seem a bit odd. For one thing, the most recent Predator film was a sequel that didn’t involve Arnold, and it seems like it would be in their best interest to simply continue down that path. For another thing, Arnold himself has said he won’t be taking on any intense action roles. Perhaps they want him for a cameo or supporting role instead.
Of course, everyone is very curious to see what comic book property Arnold might be attaching himself to. Does anyone out there have any ideas? What do you think is the best project for Schwarzenegger to choose for his Hollywood comeback?
