The Goonies 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition Coming in November

Boy, time sure flies when you’re watching movies. Today is the 25th anniversary of the theatrical release of The Goonies, the classic ’80s adventure film directed by Richard Donner and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. To commemorate the occasion, Warner Brothers have unveiled a very special Collector’s Edition of the film that will be coming to DVD and Blu-ray later this year. For the most part, the content of the disc seems to be the same as the existing DVD release, but it also comes packed with cool collectibles including:

  • The Goonies board game
  • Collectible storyboard prints
  • A 1985 souvenir magazine with behind-the-scenes stories
  • A reprint of a 2009 article with updates on the entire cast

The suggested retail price of the DVD will be $39.92, while the BD is $49.99. Is this something you plan on picking up? The Goonies: 25th Anniversary Collector’s edition hits stores on November 2nd.

If they release a BD version sans all the extra stuff I’ll buy that. I’m really not that enamored with the souvenir stuff anymore.

  • hoffamania

I completely agree… the souvenir stuff looks fun but I don’t really need more stuff to keep in a drawer.

I’d rather have a BD version with some new extras.

i love this flick, it is definitely one of my favs growing up. i already have the dvd and if they are not adding anything else there really is no point in getting this for a boardgame and a magazine.

its not good enough for me!

I will wait for the BD too.

I’d buy that boardgame all on its own! That sounds awesome.

Love the movie, will definitely be getting this.

Oh hell yes. I haven’t updated this gem to Blu yet. They should have included the copper bones in that release.

I read the Empire article on the reunion and it was pretty amazing. I think they reprinted it from that picture, in a nice format.

they should have put the regular version as well as the extended version that i’ve seen on tv a few times. with the extra footage put back in. like the scene in the store that they cut which shows how the map actually got ruined on the edges not from time but from troy pretending it was a giant joint. or the scene when they land in the water and are going towards the boat and are attacked by the octopus that data mentions at the end while being interviewed by a reporter “the octopus was very scary” that always boggled my mind that line till i saw the extended edition on tv. then i was like wow ok now i get it =)

I am a huge goonies fan and I am definately going to get this when it comes out in November. I was wondering what BD stands for.

  • Gabi

Will definitely be getting this for all the extra stuff included!!! I always wanted the board game! :-) But I agree, they should release this edition with the deleted scenes incorporated into the flick.

    @Leah: BD = Blue-ray Disc

I know Spielberg would probably embarrassed by the rubber octopus scene, but it better at least be on the deleted scenes…I have always looked for an original release with the full cut. I don’t need a board game just the cheesy octopus scene & I like the idea of a copper bones….maybe a keychain? =)
