The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian Prequel Not Starring The Rock

You know you’ve gotta be dealing with a pretty dubious project when it’s actually beneath The Rock (to be fair, after the success of The Game Plan, his stock in Hollywood is definitely rising), and The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian looks just about as dubious as they come. I have to wonder why anyone would want to see a prequel to this movie when the main star isn’t involved… then again, I didn’t understand why anyone wanted to see a spin-off from The Mummy franchise in the first place (no offense Mummy lovers!).

This direct to DVD title is the next project for Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction, Highlander) and it will star Michael Copon in the role of young Mathayus. Who is Michael Copon? Why, none other than the Blue Ranger from Power Rangers: Time Force! Okay, that is one Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series I didn’t even know existed, but still… a good replacement for The Rock, right? Err… maybe not. Truthfully, the only draw for this movie will probably be UFC fighter Randy Couture, who co-stars along with Rolf Moeller (Conan The Adventurer). Man, this movie has gold written all over it.
