Terry Gilliam To Direct Next Harry Potter Film?

There’s a juicy rumour going around the internet this week regarding who might be directing the 6th Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (Keep in mind, we’re not talking about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is already in production and being directed by David Yates.) Yeah, I know, it’s pretty damn early to be discussing this crap, but this one is hard to ignore. The name being thrown around for part 6 is none other than Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Brazil). While it’s unclear where exactly this rumour is coming from, word on the street is that J.K. Rowling actually wanted Gilliam for an earlier installment of the series already. Personally I would love to see this… Gilliam could breathe new life into a movie franchise that is getting progressively more stagnant. His most recent film, Tideland, was also a kid’s movie (albeit a pretty messed up one). I’d love to see Gilliam get all surreal with a Potter flick, wouldn’t you? (Let’s just put thoughts of The Brothers Grimm out of our heads for the time being though.)

gilliam can definitely make this movie alot better, i would like to see him take the reigns of the 6th flick and see where he takes us.

  • If you have Terry Gilliam make this movie, he will fuck it up. He’s just plain cursed for one.

By the time he’s done with it the Harry Potter kids will all be 27 and not young enough for the parts in the last movie.

And Gilliam will try to make it 8 hours and then cry when it has to be cut down to the press.

Gilliam is a good director, but its become clear over the years he’s not cut out to be in charge of a feature on a personal level. It’s killing him, he gets too stressed out and every ‘making of’ doc on his films seems to indicate he cares way more about the art direction. I dont know why he doesnt just do that or something.
